Cats need something to scratch. If you don't give them one, they'll pick your sofa.

This post is wrapped in natural sisal rope. Cats take to it more readily than carpet or fabric because it's coarse enough to catch their claws properly, and it holds up to daily use without shredding in a week.

The base is solid wood with a non-slip pad underneath, so the post stays where you put it when your cat throws their weight at it. There's a ball toy built into the base too, which usually keeps them going after the scratching stops.

It's 30 cm tall, which is short, and that's deliberate. Full-height cat trees need a corner you may not have. Plenty of cats are perfectly happy with something they can reach without climbing.

Assembly takes a couple of minutes and needs no tools.

Care

• Brush or vacuum loose sisal fibres as they appear.
• Wipe the wooden base with a damp cloth and dry it straight away.
• Don't soak any part of it.
• Keep it indoors and away from damp.
• Check the base fixings now and then and retighten if needed.
• Replace the post once the sisal is badly frayed.
